New To The DJ? -- Files You Should Download
If you have recently purchased a Dell DJ, you likely do not yet have the latest firmware. There were some problems many users experienced with the original firmware, so Dell released a firmware update on March 2, 2004. At the same time, Dell released their Dell DJ Explorer software to manage the music/data on your DJ. They also released a MusicMatch plugin to fix the problem of album track numbers not being copied to the DJ via MusicMatch.
How do I know if I already have the latest firmware? To check and see if you already have the latest firmware, go to Information > Firmware Version on your DJ's menu. If it shows up as version 1.10.05, then you already have the latest version. If you have a previous version, then you'll likely want to download/install the firmware update on your DJ. Here are some links to the various files on Dell's site: Dell DJ Downloads Homepage -- Lists all of the downloads available for the Dell DJ. Firmware Version 1.10.05 -- Install file for the latest firmware version, by itself. Dell DJ Explorer -- Install file for the Dell DJ Explorer software, by itself. MusicMatch Plugin/Driver Update -- Install file for the MusicMatch Plugin/Driver Update. MusicMatch must already be installed on your PC. Full Dell DJ Customer Install CD -- Latest version of the complete Customer Install CD that comes with the DJ. Contains all of the latest versions of the firmware, drivers, applications, and documentation. Warning if you are a dial-up Internet user: The file is 24MB, and could take an hour or longer to download.

What you do mean that Firmware runs your DJ? Is that where your songs and CDs go? I am also a little confused with the relationship between the firmware, Dell DJ Explorer, and MusicMatch. What do all these programs/software do exactly? I don't have a DJ yet, I'm still trying to figure out the basics first and make sure that I will be able to run it on my laptop w/ W98.

Brianna: I wish the answer was more simple, but buckle up for a bump ride
![]() First, there's the DJ...it's like a portable hard drive with parts that make it able to play music. Second, there's the Firmware...it's the programing on the DJ that allows it to read music files and play them in different orders and patterns...repeat, shuffle, etc. Third, MusicMatch is a ripping program...it takes the music off a CD and turns it into smaller audio files...mp3, wma, things like that. Fourth, DJ Explorer is a transfer program...you use it to manage your DJ, sending files with it from your laptop to the DJ. It looks a lot like Windows Explorer, and you can click and drag your msic into the DJ...pretty simple, actually. As far as software compatability, all you need to look into is if DJ Explorer works on Win 98, and get the newest version of Windows Media Player [9] to rip songs with [cause MusicMatch sucks chicken balls, seriously] Hope that helps!
