New Firmware Officially Released

NEW FIRMWARE & DJ EXPLORER

Dell has released firmware 1.10.05 for the Dell DJ MP3 player. The firmware adds many features that consumers have been asking for including Artist > Album browsing and Play All Tracks. Dell has also released a program called "DJ Explorer" which is similar to Dudebox Explorer. I have not yet installed DJ Explorer, but I have installed the firmware and I will tell you, this is what we've been waiting for. It's an excellent upgrade to an excellent product. emplynx,

Thank you for getting this up on the front page. I have been "out of the office" for the past 2 days. Obviously with my luck, those 2 days would be when this happens.

For everyone interested, here are the full details of the update:

Click Here To Download the Update

Firmware v1.10.05 Changes:
  1. Updated Play Engine to fix issue with short voice recordings. This play engine also responds faster when performing FF (next track).
  2. Added option to "Play All Music Tracks" as an option within Music Library.
  3. Add option to "View Album" from within Music Library->Artist.
  4. Add option to "Play Album" from within Music Library->Artist->View Album->View Tracks, and from within Music Library->Album->View Tracks.
  5. Fixed problem with renaming tracks.
  6. Renamed "Remove All" under the pop-up for Selected Music to "Clear Selection".
  7. Added a "Clear Selection" option to the pop-up on the Main Menu->Now Playing. This option will perform the same operation as (2), and change the screen to the Selected Music screen after clearing.

Don't bother with the "DJ Explorer App"

It needs to go back to India for some major debugging. Total and complete garbage. My Dell Latitude D600 and my roommate's Dell Inspiron 600m are both screwed up due to the upgrade. Neither of us can get anywhere with this upgrade. We are not stupid, I am a IT VP and my roommate is a very senior software engineer. Between the two of us we have thousands of hours developing system not to mention troubleshooting software/hardware problems.

The DJ device is great, loading files onto this thing has been extremely problematic from day one. Too bad iPod doesn't do WMA!

Note that I am a major Dell fan but working with this product reminds me of computing in the early 90s.

Debugging notes if anyone involved in this product is listening:

"Proxy Desktop" won't close
Task Manager will load but is warped (the usual tabs aren't visible)
Windows Explorer will sometimes not load
There is not sign whatsoever of a "Task Bar" DJ Icon
Several (double digit) reboots, uninstalls and reinstalls
Dudebox Explorer was installed prior to install, has been removed.

I'm seeing similar problems. When DJ Explorer is executed from the desktop shortcut or by clicking it in the Folders pane of Windows Explorer, this prevents any new Windows Explorer instances from launching thereafter. For example once DJ Explorer is loaded, if you click Start > Accessories > Windows Explorer, Start > My Computer, or Start > Control Panel, nothing happens. It's very aggravating.

Also whenever I reset after loading DJ Explorer, I get an error message indicating 'Desktop Proxy' could not be shut down.

It’s about time they supplied a nice explorer interface, now if only they could give us one that doesn’t bring Windows to its knees.
