Do start learning about the different codecs (mp3, wma, etc.) you might end up using and the bitrates you want (96, 128, etc). This is a big subject if you are ripping your own CDs or getting music from a music site that allows online encoding. Basically you have to decide which format you want, then make a decision about quality of your recordings vs. amount of space they take up. Once you've done that,
Do begin ripping your CDs and getting them tagged correctly. (Assuming you have some you want to put on your DJ). Otherwise,
Do start downloading the music you want and getting all the tags in order.
Do update new firmware, drivers, etc, and download DJ Explorer when you get your DJ.
Do be careful with you DJ, but
Don't treat it like it's made of glass. If you baby it so much you don't enjoy it, what's the point of having it? Then again, I got the accidental damage warranty so I don't have to worry about it much.

to add to that, choose MP3, just because its universal
also
use the DJ as a music holder yaadadadadada, but KEEP BACKUPS OF ALL OF YOUR MUSIC! i cant stress that enough

don't play hardcore basketball with it,. it freezes alot, and the harddrive will eventually break.
