college discount on refurbished dj, ipod?

hi everyone.
first off, you guys have been a huge help, just by me reading about other people's questions getting answered.
second, i was wondering if i could get a college discount on a REFURBISHED ipod or dj. i know there's a discount on the brand new ones, but i wouldn't mind saving a little more money, considering money is pretty tight.
finally, does anyone know where i could find a picture of a side to side comparison of both the dj and ipod. you know, to sort of see how much bigger the dj is.
i'm going to buy one or the other within the next 2 weeks. i really like the ipod but the short battery life sort of turns me off.
i hope you guys can be as much help to me as you've been for just about everybody else.
THANKS!

Don't know about a true side by side thing, but you can get the dimensions from the respective sites (and draw 'em on paper). The pod is smaller by a tad and thinner by a tad too. Don't know about a dc on refurbs (I didn't know dell had one on the new ones either). The battery life is etched in stone (double or more, Dell wins with up to 20 hrs.)

I remember looking at some pics at gear.ign.com and DAPreview.com. Poke around those two sites.

That is quite nice. I've never seen a better one.

hey, let me let you in on a little secret with the refurbs. If you buy a refurb, then have a problem with it, Dell sends you out a brand new one -not a refurb, at no extra charge. Hows that for service! So for me, I got a brand new 20gb for 187 bucks. Love the Dell!

Maybe. But sometimes the replacements are refurbs.

I had a refurb, and it was replaced with a new one, at least I think its a new one. It didn't have the refurb sticker on the back, and the the dont steal music clingy thing on. I was expecting another refurb.

Morphling, are u sure that Dell doesn't have a student discout on DJ's? I know they probably wouldn't have it on the refurbs, but I know that they have discounts on the DJ for educational employees (I am a computer tech at a college) of 8%. I would think they would still do the discount on DJ's since there is a student discount on all of their other equipment.

I work at a store reselling equipment, including Dell, to the university community. I work for a division of computing services. Unless you try Dell's Higher Education Personal purchase page, which may offer one, there is no discount on DJ's or Axim handhelds. They don't put enough margin on the items for it. It's possible some schools have a specific contract that entitles them to a set discount on every item, but Dell normally doesnt negotiate that way at all.

Also, the refurbs are units that are returned within 30 days, so they are basically new.
