Question Password

Is there a way to put a password on these things just in case you lose or dont want anybody to access your songs or anything else that is on it?

Passwords would not do much on these types of devices. All you have to do is reset or format it and you are as good as new.

You could put the button lock on. That would probably keep most people who might casually pick it up from being able to figure out what's wrong. Obviously it's not foolproof, but it's about as good as you're going to get from a digital audio player.

Of course, then when they push the buttons, a box appears that says "Player Locked" and if they just look at the top of the device they will see the lock switch with a little pic of a lock next to it and pushed so that the signiture orange color is shown. That wouldn't fool anyone who messed with mp3 players before.

However, if Dell ever brings out a password feature, they could make the reset only reset the library and not the password. However, this feature will probably not never be introduced, because of the hassle it would cause if you forget your password.

Just a suggestion. I'm not saying it would fool James Bond. Besides, if you put the lock on while it's powered off, which is what I was talking about, no message pops up. The blue button lights come on like it's going to power up, but then it doesn't. This might lead the person to believe the player is broken; I know this because I had a brief panic attack last week after I messed around with the lock button while answering someone's question about it. Forgot about it, and the next day when I tried to turn it on, nothing. Few moments of panic, then remembered I had put the lock on.

You can always perform a hard reset on a locked dj and have a fully functioning dj. There is no way to get around this. The library will be erased though.
