sound quality

i recently added 2 albums to my DJ and when i went to play them the sound quality wasnt up to par with the others. it sounded more hollow and just less good. they both happened to be burned cd's, but they are from idfferent computers, and ive put other burned ones on there too that were fine soundwise. one other thing is that i might have been copying another album as i downloaded those 2 to the DJ. (i say might because i dont remeber if it was those exact albums beign sent to the dj as i copied another album to my computer) the albums before an after those two sound fine. should i just up the send quality for those cd's? any other ideas? thanks,

Edit: i just added a non burned CD to my DJ and i had the same poorer sound quality. im upping to 128 from 96 and im gonna see if it helps.
-- it fully transfered and i still got that hollow distorted sound quality with the 128.

My other previous tracks sounded perfect at 96 too, i dont know whats going on. the battery happens to be low too, if that might be a cause.

im really starting to get discouraged with my dj. ive been having so many problems with it from the music match, to the sound, to the freezing, im having second thoughts about my purchase .
please, somebody reassure me with a good answer that solves my problem

MusicMatch - you don't need to use it. Windows Media Player can subsitute. DJ Explorer is another way. You just drag and drop songs. DJ Explorer can also fix problems with the taggin once you add the song to the DJ. Dukebox is expensive but a very very nice solution to all transfering and taggin problems

Sound - I don't know much about sound formats/quality but I can say that my songs are all either WMA 160kps,44kHz /MP3 160kbps,44kHz and it sounds awesome, with the occansional scratching sound. I think 96 is kind of low quality, so you can't expect for it to sound really good. Basically, if it sounds bad, it's because of the formate/bitrate, not the DJ. Of course some other mp3 players have higher quality sounds for lower bitrates but bascially if you have the song at a good bitrate, it sounds good. Also maybe the songs you moved to the DJ were somehow messed up or converted from some other format. A low battery power should not effect the quality of the transfer.

Freezing - Upload the new firmware. Use the reset button. If nothing else works, call Customer Service and get a new one.

I would say to try messing with your DJ for a bit longer. Than if you don't like the quality, call Customer Service to see if you can get another one. Maybe your DJ is messed up. If you still don't like it return it. Dell will give you a refund after 30 days of purchase, I think

I agree. I hate MusicMatch. Windows Media Player is pretty good. But, now I'm using Dudebox, which I like a lot.

Try ripping somewhere between 128 and 192 and see what type of results you get. If you still suffer from poor sound quality, call Dell Customer Service and get a replacement.

This thread HERE would be a good read when you get a chance. Bottom line is that with all the storage available on the DJ you really don't need to encode at such a low rate (which was more applicable to older generation players when storage was at a premium).

Theres nothing wrong with musicmatch. I would recommend upgrading it to the pro version though if plan on using it. Many more features and benefits than the base version.

does the bitrate affect the battery usage?

C.JamesP.:I recall a recent post on the Dell site that was similar to yours (bad sound, but other past transfers sound fine). I suspect that the transfer program (MusicMatch perhaps in your case?) is the culprit. Just for fun try transferring the same CD from your PC using a different transfer program (DJ Explorer, or WMP if you use MM). Delete the current bad copy first (or rename the album title beforehand so you can tell which is which to compare).

Three freezes while transferring using WMP or while just playing? if I were you I would transfer using DJ Explorer instead. It's faster and easier and you can do more with it (and it's free). Try what I suggested above with DJExp. And run Disc Cleanup too. Make sure the firmware listed in "information" is version 1.10 (not 1.20--if it is go to FAQ on the Dell DJ site for instructions on how to install version 1.10 again).

I've experienced freezing with WMP too. That's why I spent the $25 and got Dudebox Explorer. Now, no problems at all. Try DJ Explorer and see if that helps. If you still have issues, you might want to give Dell a call and get your DJ replaced.

It really does sucks that you're getting all these crazy problems. Are you returning the DJ or getting a replacement?? If you decide to keep, I would reccomend DJ Explorer and upgrading firmware if you haven't already.

guess what? more problems. i tried to uninstall all my dell DJ components and to reinstall them, but they would install properly. theyd install halfway and freeze. So the computer cant transfer any songs to the DJ now, it wont even come up as docked when i connect with the usb. PLUS its not uninstalling the dj programs. i know its partially my crappy windows ME computers fault but my DJ just aint right. I dont have a ton of time to call tonight so im hoping i can get some tomorrow and get a replacement, because i really want to have a working DJ
