Rhtrevino Reviews Dell DJ Screen Protectors

"The Dell DJ has been an appealing DAP because of its reasonable price, modern styling, and solid build. Despite the fact that the DJ is geared toward the budget conscious, it does not mean that DJ owners consider their player inferior to any of the higher echelon players. They want to know that their investment is going to be safe and sound. A Gucci case may be out of the question, but Mike Hughes and the guys at GadgetShield.com have crafted a great little product to help alleviate one of the main problems facing DAP owners….scratches."

Look pretty good, though the holes could line up with the buttons a little bit better. Just nit-picking. Might get a Jam Jacket now that I can get these to protect the screen.
The review doesn't mention much about how durable they are, I guess because they are about the same as any screen protector, but I'm not really familiar with how protective screen covers are.

Is that screen protector enough protection for a dj? Or would it be better for me to just get a case with a screen protector built in? Oh, and what case would you guys recommend for me. I would like one with a screen protector.

I changed my opinion about the product and I had a few errors in my previous post, so I'm updating it. You can view my old post further down.

-1st class mail is supposed to take 3-5 days to ship.
-The screen protector is supposed to go over the grey part. My screen protector doesn't quite meet the edges of the grey part.
-The small bubbles are really hard to get rid of, but the big ones can be removed with the credit card. Using your fingernails could remove a lot of the small bubbles but it might scratch up the screen protector but not the DJ.

-Some Scratchs disappear after a while.
-Static cling feature is very effective, easy to remove and attach (hard to get rid of bubbles and line up)
-Screen protector offers amazing protection

I found it hard to attach and align my screen protector. However, it does offer good protection. I was unhappy with the product, but they are well designed.

If you have ever used PDA screen protectors, you have an idea of how hard it is to remove bubbles. I never used PDA screen protectors, but I assume that they would have the same bubble problem. So i guess that making your own screen protector would be a bad idea. But if you do, PM me and tell me how they come out.

It also seems like I am the first person to have problems with this product, so most people do have a good experience with it. Even though I had a lot of trouble with the screen protector, I think that the product is pretty good.

Mike at GadgetShield.com helped me out a lot, and he even gave me a full refund for my troubles. GadgetShield has a great customer service and I just wished other companies would follow their lead. Mike (mahughesnh) really cares about customer satisfaction. When you do purchase products from them, you can expect that they will sincerely care about your feedback and they will do everything they can to make sure that you are satisfied. Overall, I am content with my experience, largly due to Mike's friendly help. I really appricate the way, he listen to my opinions and responded quickly to help me.

(Original Post)
I got the 4-pack of screen protectors, but I pretty disappointed. I had to wait about three-four days before it came, and it was supposed to go on 1st class mail. The screen protector only covers the grey part, and it doesn't quite fit. I had to mold it and push at the edges to get it to cover the whole thing. There are tons of bubbles under it and the credit card method doesn't work that well. I eventually resorted to my fingernails and ended up scratching up the screen protector, so there are lines all over the protector. There are still little bubbles which are expected, but still annoying. The main problem is that for a laser-cut product, it doesn't cover the grey part very well. The static cling thing is very effective, though.

The screen protector does its job and protects the screen very well. You can remove it very easily too. Its very hard to put on and mold it to cover everything. It takes a while to get rid of the big bubbles but you still end up with a lot of little bubbles. Overall, the bubbles looks pretty obvious and ugly.

When my brother got ahold of my DJ, he peeled off the screen protector immediately. It took me 30 min to mold it so most the bubbles disappeared and for it to cover the screen. When you look at the screen, you see all these little bubbles and scratches. The bubbles and scratches makes it looks pretty bad.

I guess you could buy it and try it out but I think it would be better to try to make your own with a PDA screen protector. The benefit of this screen protecor is that it would protect the grey part as well as the screen. However, it's too expensive. I'm going to buy a Belkin case with the coupon and shipping for $24. (only 4 times more expensive than 2 screen protectors)

Did anyone else have better luck with their screen protector??

I'm sorry to hear about your problems. Obviously I had much better luck with the protectors....I reviewed them. The demo protectors I received were cut perfectly....they are only supposed to cover the screen (the grey part). They are not meant to cover the bezel. I had no issues with the scratches or bubbles (there are still some small ones), but I've had a lot of experience putting on PDA protectors (and I "killed" quite a few of those when first learning how to apply them). I would suggest using a thinner instrument perhaps. To address the question regarding shipping....1st class mail is "standard" mail...expect a 3-4 day delivery time. Priority mail generally ships faster.

I would contact Mike at Gadgetshield.com with your complaints. In all my dealings with him, I found him to be very professional and customer oriented. I'm sure he'll be happy to address the problems you have had.

Money4me247,

If you are not satisfied, I would be happy to refund your purchase.

Screen protectors are not for everyone. I find it is almost an art to apply them. The DJ with all the buttons is somewhat difficult to work with when trying to remove all the bubbles. And some of the bubbles could have been caused by small particles between the protector and the screen. With my DJ I found that I could remove almost all of the bubbles. With the Karma it is close to a perfect application. With the Nitrus, again it is a problematic shape and protector application becomes an art form again.

Bottom line is, I don't want any dis-satisfied customers. I repeat that I would be happy to refund your purchase price.

Just so everyone knows, I have refunded the purchase to Money4me247. In his response he acknowledged that he is satisfied with the outcome. I would rather not sell than have upset or disappointed customers.

I have a Digital Lifestyles Outfitters Action Jacket. It has a built in screen protector. I recommend this case to anyone looking to protect their DJ.

I still think that the belkin blue sports case would be a better case, because it only costs $24 with the 12345 coupon at belkin.com. It also looks cooler than the Outfitters Action Jacket in my opinion. The Outfitters Action Jacket looks a bit bulky/saggy compared to the other cases. The benefit of the Outfitter Action Jacket is that it provides full protection and comes with a armbelt, for jogging with the DJ.

Another choice for a case is to get the Jam Jacket and then buy a screen protector. It would be a bit expensive, but then there would be amazing protection and it would look really really cool.

Or you could keep the black faux-leather case that comes with the 20 GB DJ. It isn't that bad. Maybe you could cut out a rectangle to see the screen and another one so you could use the scroll wheel. I found that you could operate the volume, play, forward, and rewind buttons while the DJ is in that case. You just have to figure out where to push. And if you mess up, you could always just buy another better case.

I ordered the screen savers, and am reasonably pleased with them.

Yes, there are bubbles you can't remove. If you want a screensaver made of a material that will have no bubbles, prepare to pay many times what these cost.

For the money, I have to give these a 9 out of 10 rating. I believe they will do a more than adequate job of protecting the face of my DJ, without compromising its appearance.

If you're a perfectionist, you probably won't be happy. Go ahead and spend big bucks on a case.

If you're someone who is looking to protect your DJ without spending a fortune, this is the solution for you.

I bought my DJ to be used, not idolized. These screensavers let me use my DJ and provide a fair level of protection at the same time.

The point of the screen protectors are to provide inexpensive screen and grey part protection. I think those are the only parts that could be scratched. It is effective protection that doesn't add any bulk to the DJ for people who don't have big pockets. They are cheaper than cases.

Cases are more expensive and provide full player protection but adds a bit of bulk. They are for people with big pockets and want to completely cover their DJ.

Oh, and I think I am the only person to have problems with them so you might as well get it and see for yourself whether they are good or not. If you become disappointed, be consoled by the fact that they do provide very effective protection and they are relatively inexpensive.

Thumbs up

I have also recently purchased the screen protectors. The only problem I have is figuring out where I can put the 2nd one so I will remember where it is whenever the 1st wears out.. Other than that they seem to work great.

It was a little tricky getting it lined up just right, but after a few attempts it went on pretty good.

Offers great protection for those that prefer not to use a full case (like me). I like to dock mine in the living room to play on my surround sound when Im at home, and dont like the idea of having to take it out of a case everytime.

And thanks for the 50% discount tip at belkin everyone. Worked great when I bought a new desktop stand for my dj.
