Hey guys, just ordered one!!

Hi everyone, I just ordered a 15 GB Dell DJ for only $199! Well I didnt get any accesories particularly the case because Im not in the greatest financial situation, so I would like to know what you guys think of having it without a protective case. So now I just have to wait 3-5 buisness days to get it, so probaly Friday or Monday at the latest. What are some things I should do when I first get it? Should I download any new things? Umm, should I use Dude Box or DJ explorer? I already have my whole collection ready to go on MusicMatch. Also how it says you have to charge it 6 hours before use, does that mean I cant transfer music to it in the meantime? Thanks everyone, and hope my stay at these froums are good.

Congratz, first
3-5 busness days if for shipping, not packaging. Ordered mine on tuesday, called dell and they said it would be here by wednesday for sure.
Second
Download Dj Explorer, unless you want to spend money on dudebox.
Third
Not 6 hours when you first get it, it is precharged, probobly 3 hours. I don't believe you can transfre music while you are charging.

If everything is ready to go in Music MAtch then use it. You go to view and then portable device manager, its really easy. Make sure you have the DJ plugin for MusicMatch, you can get it at the MM site.

for the plugin, make sure you get the latest driver so the transfer of the songs will be in the correct order.

dj exlorer is a must. u can put music on the dj while charging. if ur cheap like me u can wrap the dj in cloth then put some duct tape around it and cut out holes for the screen and buttins. mine looks really sweet but that may be because im in love with duct tape. the cloth makes it so the case will slide on and off.

Yeah, I would definately want to see some pics of this, it sounds awesome! I am quite familiar with the decorating and practical uses for duct tape.

As for that, when I got mine last Friday (4/09/04), the actual firmware in my DJ was the old version, but they did include a little slip of paper notifing of the firmware update and what it included.

You must install the new firmware unless (highlight Information on the main menu) it says version 1.10.05 Then go nuts transferring using MusicMatch if you have the patch. If you like what you have in the MM Librarary connect the DJ (turn it on first), open portable device mgr, make sure the DJ screen says "docked" and hit "synch". Go have a brew and it should transfer the entire library. Have a blast!
