MusicMatch track # problems

Hi all -
I have been a regular reader of the forums here and haven't had a reason to post 'till now. I'll start off by complimenting the community, I have learned so much from the forums, and some tips provided have kept me from going to the looney bin.

So anyways, here's my problem. I now have 2 DJ's, I recently got one for my girlfriend. I have been using the amazing utillity dudebox for my DJ since I read about it on this site, but dudebox will not work w/ the new DJ. Do I have to shell out another $25? I decided to go back to the loathsome musicmatch software. I immediatly installed the upgrade patches, but to no avail, I still have the track issues where tracks transfered lose their track #'s. I have also tried to use the new DJ Explorer, but the same problem arises. I also tried to use WMP, this resolved the track # issue, but the transfers take to long due to the "audiomorph" feature of WMP that you can't turn off. I've tried just about everything, including all 3 versions of the drivers/mm patches, but nothing seems to work like I am used to w/ dudebox. If anyone has any words of wisdom, I thank you in advance.

Not that unique.

Dudebox will only work with one DJ. Red Chair uses a token system that restricts its use. But I have heard of people contacting them and they have made some arrangement for use by more than one DJ. It might involve the exchange of funds, but I would think not the entire $25.

I hate MusicMatch. Was that strong enough?

And I have had the same problem with DJ Explorer that you have, although only with wma files. Some have said the solution is to make sure that the track numbers are recorded in the tag with the leading zero, in other word 01, 02, 03.... But it didn't work for me.

Actually MusicMatch didn't work for me. It would lock up or crash every time I tried a transfer. After the patches, when I could get it to transfer, the track numbers were fine

DJ Explorer strips out my track numbers if the tracks are wma format. Works fine if they are mp3.

Dudebox has never given me a minute of trouble. Best $25 I have spent on the DJ.

Just to be certain, you are aware that there's a MM patch available on Dell's site (v1.10.00 A03) dated 3/4/04 that allegedly, "fixes album track numbers not being copied when using MusicMatch to transfer albums to the DJ", right? The installation filename is R74212.EXE.

I am aware of these patches, I installed every patch on the dell website, including the aformentioned patch, but the track numbering problem persits.
Is there anyone that the patch worked for?

Haven't used MusicMatch....

But in order for the track numbers to work correctly, make sure that the "Track Number" field in the ID3 tag are filled in with the correct track numbers. I know some programs (and I've heard MM does this) just fills that field in with a "00" instead of the track number.

I used WMP to rip the tracks, and when transfered w/ dudebox, everything works right. The reason I'm using MM is that I have 2 DJ's, but I can only use dudebox w/ my 1st DJ (I still need to check w/ redchair about using a second DJ w/ dudebox). I have been using WMP to transfer files, but it takes soooo long compared to dudebox.

I guess the reason I'm continuing this thread is that I think Dell needs to address this problem and provide a complete fix to the problem. I just think that the hardware is exellent, but the software is exteremely lacking. Unfortunatly, the idea of having to pay $25 for software for an item they bought for over $200 (that is supposed to be all inclusive) has the potential to turn off many cutomers, especially those who are looking for the simplicity and ease of use of an iPod. I just really want to see Dell succeed in giving the iPod a run for it's money, but until the software catches up to the hardware, it won't happen.
